Nokia today announced Nokia Wireless Accelerator, designed to optimise data communication over narrowband wireless and fixed networks. Nokia Wireless Accelerator downloads enterprise data to wireless devices or laptops. Nokia Wireless Accelerator technology is a component of Nokia IP Security platforms and Nokia IP VPN solutions.
“As more businesses go mobile, the need to empower employees with the tools to quickly access information remotely is dramatically increasing,” said Dan MacDonald, vice president of marketing, Nokia Enterprise Solutions.
“With Nokia Wireless Accelerator, a fast and dependable wireless access solution is readily available to corporate networks, even in the absence of a high speed connection. With the proliferation of mobile devices and laptops with mobile connectivity in today’s enterprise environments, businesses will continue to look for ways to leverage these devices to achieve higher levels of productivity.”
With Nokia Wireless Accelerator, corporate data traffic to and from the mobile device can be compressed and optimised for fast viewing. Nokia Wireless Accelerator also provides client-server and server-only acceleration models for flexible deployment:
1. The server-only acceleration model does not require any client installation. Instead, enterprises can leverage Nokia Wireless Accelerator configured as a proxy for a web browser.
2. In the client-server model, Nokia Wireless Accelerator client is installed on a laptop running Microsoft Windows operating system.
Nokia Wireless Accelerator is expected to be globally available in December 2003.
