Ericsson has introduced an enhanced version of its BusinessPhone business communications system for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). BusinessPhone 6.0 offers new facilities for mobile working, IP Telephony, Unified Messaging (UM) and Computer-Telephony Integration (CTI), together with support for Ericsson’s new Dialog 4000 range of business telephones. The key enhancements in BusinessPhone 6.0 are increased mobility support and the introduction of H.323 standard IP telephony.
BusinessPhone Mobile Extension gives mobile workers ubiquitous access to PBX system features while away from the office. These include services like abbreviated number dialling, camp-on, intrusion and call-back facilities. Advanced CTI and UM facilities enable users to choose how and when they want to have access to voice mail – via Mobile Extension or an email account, for example.
BusinessPhone systems can now be integrated into – and networked or trunked over – any H.323 based IP network, and coupled with other IP-PBXs through a Voice-over-IP (VoIP) Gateway equipment over IP backbones.
“With this latest incarnation of BusinessPhone, we’re making sure our customers are able to tap into new, more integrated and more simplified ways of working,” said Stefan Vekeman, global portfolio manager at Ericsson Enterprise.
“Whether they are single-site enterprises, or multi-national corporations with a network of smaller sites, our customers can benefit from even more ‘big-system’ features, and unprecedented opportunities for mobility and flexible working, in a package that matches their needs precisely.”
The new system supports the latest version of Ericssons BackStage, a CTI application that provides Unified Communications (UC) for users. It enables SMEs to integrate desktop applications like Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word with the phone system. For example, it enables UC facilities like automated call forwarding to users’ selected devices based on calendar and other preferences.
There are three products in the BusinessPhone portfolio. The compact BusinessPhone 50 is optimised for telephone systems with up to 64 extensions. The BusinessPhone 250 meets the needs of organizations with up to 200 extensions. A 19-inch rack-mounted version, BusinessPhone 128i , is specifically designed for integration with data networking equipment.
All systems offer Automatic Call Distribution (ACD), voicemail and automated attendant facilities, DECT cordless extensions and a range of digital and IP networking capabilities. The new version of BusinessPhone is available immediately. Existing BusinessPhone users will be able to upgrade to the enhanced version.
