Nokia has announced an enterprise mobility solution that provides mobile workers using browser-enabled handheld devices a desktop-like experience when accessing corporate email, calendar, contacts, and tasks, including the ability to access attachments from an email and embedded live links to intranet or internet sites. Nokia Access is optimised for business phones such as the Nokia 6800 messaging phone, Nokia 6600 imaging phone, and the Nokia 9200 Communicator series.
Since Nokia Access Mobilizer senses the display requirements of the mobile device it is able to deliver relevant content, including Microsoft Office documents and Adobe PDF documents in a format optimised for that terminal, regardless of its wireless digital standard.
Nokia Access Mobilizer leverages the existing corporate security infrastructure as an appliance-based offering installed behind the corporate firewall that, similar to a web server, is installed quickly. Because there is no alteration or modification of source content required, and no additional client software to deploy on devices accessing the system, employees can use their existing phones and PDA s to access legacy and new content.
Users open the browser on their device and specify the secure URL unique to their company. Once logged in with an ID and password, they get fully functional.
Nokia Access Mobilizer operates on essentially any public or private wireless network and all transferred data is retained on the original server, not the mobile device.
“In today’s global business environment, enterprises are at an advantage with a workforce that uses Nokia Access Mobilizer because of its efficiency, security and flexibility,” said Sam Leinhardt, vice president and general manager, Nokia Access Mobilizer Business Unit.
“Employees are able to read and reply to emails, view presentations and access content on the Web or company intranet, in real-time from any browser-enabled device, without having to do anything special such as synchronize their device when they are back in the office.”
Nokia Access Mobilizer is currently orderable in the Americas and Europe, with expected global availability in the first half of 2004.
