Philips Electronics and the German medical IT company Optimal Systems have received a major order for the installation of SpeechMagic the Philips speech recognition software in nine German convalescent clinics. In the first step, 170 workstations will be equipped with SpeechMagic. The order was placed by two German state insurers who operate the convalescent clinics. The nine clinics are the first convalescence clinics in Germany to implement hospital-wide speech recognition.
“By shifting work in our transcription department from typing to proof-reading, we have achieved prompt report generation. This improves our customer satisfaction due to the very short waiting period from consultation to the diagnosis. In addition, the automatic archiving of reports to the corresponding patients file makes the misfiling of reports almost impossible. The increased productivity allows us to free resources in our transcription department, which we employ in other areas, e.g. in patient care. All these improvements reduce the administrative costs in our hospital,” said Marion Kalwa, responsible for the clinics pilot project.
