839 — Babel and Navigation technologies cooperate on voice-enabling navigation system databases

Sep 23, 2003 | Conteúdos Em Ingles

Babel Technologies and Navigation Technologies are to create specific name phonemes for the NAVTECH Phonetic Database using Babel advanced Text-to-Speech (TTS) technology. The specifically phonetised database phonemes enable more robust directional instructions and pronunciation of place names, thereby reducing driver error.

“Many of today’s navigation systems use generic, audible directions like ‘turn right’ or ‘stay to the left.’ With the integration of voice transcriptions into NAVTECH data, you will receive the correct pronunciation of specific spoken directions like “turn left onto Avenue des Champs-Élysées,” John MacLeod, EVP, Global Marketing & Strategy, Navigation Technologies commented.

Babel is adapting Navigation Technologies’s phonetisation to foreign language pronunciation. These multi-variable pronunciation databases for in-vehicle systems can be combined with Automatic Speech Recognition applications.
