Alcatel announced that BT’s recently launched EVLAN service is using an Alcatel solution. BT Ethernet VLAN uses the Alcatel Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS) solution to deliver Ethernet connectivity smoothly and securely between multi-site organizations. The service is available initially in London and across the UK within the coming year.VPLS gives us all the advantages of Ethernet in an extended LAN environment,” said
Martin Maters, general manager of bandwidth and Ethernet services at BT Global Services. “Its simplicity and ubiquity make it an easy service to roll out and we are able to offer our customers a fully connected, anywhere-to-anywhere network featuring no single core point of failure, supported by Alcatel’sVPLS technology.

We are pleased to see BT putting Ethernet at the heart of their plans” said Basil Alwan, president of Alcatel’s IP activities. “Ethernet services are a key part of Alcatel’s drive to enable higher-value managed communications services. As one of the most progressive service providers in the world today, BT is making a clear statement that VPLS can deliver what their enterprise customers want: ease of use, reliability for their critical applications, and cost-optimization.
