BT today announced it has deployed a fully managed IP Virtual Private Network (VPN) at Orwell Housing Association, one of the UK’s top 150 registered social landlords. The solution is based on BT‘s IP Clear service and will provide connectivity to Orwell’s five UK offices, including their headquarters in Ipswich.

“A greater number of individuals now require instant access to information stored at multiple sites, therefore creating significant demand for greater connectivity between company offices. The new solution represents a real milestone for us, whereby we are taking a major step forward in streamlining workflow within the organisation,” Stephen Javes, chief executive officer, Orwell Housing Association, said

BT has responsibility for optimal design, installation and management of the network up to and including the router. Furthermore a service level agreement commits BT to ensure 99.9 percent availability, with faults being resolved within a five hour timeframe. The system went live in January 2004 and facilitates complete access to the organisation’s IT network at each of the company’s sites.

Orwell is experiencing rapid growth in the portfolio of properties it owns and manages, which now stands at 2,600 homes in Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire and Essex. An upsurge in administrative and customer service needs have naturally followed, with both personnel and office space increasing. The ability to share information across the whole organisation has become a paramount issue and the rationale behind the decision to create an IP VPN.
